Illumination

Gottingen Model Book

The Gottingen Model Book is a gold mine for any modern illuminator. Model books were the medieval equivalent to modern clipart. This one is the model book used to paint one of the few surviving Gutenberg bibles printed on parchment. You can view both the model book as well as the bible separately, or compare them side by side. The site also has a translation of the model book which details how to paint all of the elements used for the bible.

Stores & Supplies

Lee Valley Tools

This is an incredible store for anyone who is a wood worker. A lot of people complain that many of their tools are expensive, but most of the tools here are some of the best you can find. If you live in Canada they have a couple of stores across the country that you can walk into. If you are not near one, they have excellent mail order service either by phone or on their website. One thing that I've noticed is that their website doesn't have everything from their catalog, so order one if you can. If you've never been to this site before, go there now.

John Neal Bookseller

A great resource for calligraphy and illumination supplies in North America.
